When the school year ends, we open our doors to guests looking for a unique place to gather. With views of the fjord and easy access to both mountains and the sea, we offer excellent facilities and accommodation for courses, camps, family reunions, weddings, and other events.
Here, you will find a great atmosphere, fantastic food, and a place many choose to return to—year after year.

Welcome to Sunnhordland Folk High School on idyllic Halsnøy!

Sunnhordland Folk High School is idyllically situated on the island of Halsnøy, overlooking the fjord. Halsnøy lies at the entrance to the Hardangerfjord and is part of the municipality of Kvinnherad. With Halsnøy as your base, you are within easy reach of the mountains stretching from Folgefonna in the east to the Skjærgården and the open sea in the west.

We have many satisfied guests who return year after year. The volunteer camp (NFU Fitjar) and the UNOF summer music school are both regulars here.

The Sunnfolk tapas is famous far beyond the municipal boundaries, and Nina’s Beef Stroganoff likewise.

Facilities

Accommodation

9 dormitories (small buildings) with a total of 102 beds. We have 56 single rooms; the rest are doubles.

Commercial kitchen

The kitchen can only be rented if the kitchen staff is also hired.

Dining hall

The dining room can be set up exactly as you wish. It offers a magnificent view to the south, looking down towards the sea. We can comfortably seat 120 guests, though we have hosted events for up to 160 people; it all depends on the table arrangement.

Dormitories

The small houses have a small shared living room and kitchen. Each house accommodates 8–10 people. Bathrooms are shared with up to four others, though most rooms have a sink and mirror.

Auditorium and rehearsal rooms

Our auditorium seats 100 people. The stage is large and spacious, equipped with a projector, whiteboard, etc., and features a grand piano. Adjoining the auditorium are four practice rooms (all with pianos) and a well-equipped sound studio. The sound studio is available for rent only in conjunction with our own personnel.

Common room, gymnasium, theatre hall, and classrooms

The various rooms can also be rented out if needed. People often prefer to hold the dinner in the dining hall and the party itself in the gymnasium. The latter can be decorated to perfection.

Fitness room

We have a well-equipped gym that is available to tenants.

Boathouse

The boathouse contains several canoes and life jackets. There are excellent paddling conditions right below the school grounds.

Outdoor area

The school grounds are rich in green space and are surrounded by both forest and the sea. We would particularly highlight the Sandvikjo swimming beach, Halsnøy Monastery, and the many walks available in the surrounding woods.
