About the local area
- Halsnøy is the largest and most populous island (approximately 2,000 inhabitants) in Kvinnherad Municipality in Vestland County.
- Simply put, Halsnøy is located midway between Bergen and Stavanger. The island is often called "Perlo" or "Basarholmen."
- There are several small settlements on the island. Sunnhordland Folk High School is located between Eidsvik and Ranavik, the latter of which has a ferry and express boat terminal. Sæbøvik is considered the center; the area north of the center is known as the "outer island," while the area south of the center is known as the "inner island."
- It is easy to get here by car, boat, or bus, and the island is connected to the mainland by a tunnel to the east.
- There are daily boat departures from Bergen Airport, Flesland, and Bergen. The boat takes just under two hours to Flesland and an additional 25 minutes to reach Bergen city center.
- You can fly to Bergen Airport (Flesland) or Sørstokken on Stord, and then take a boat to our quay, Ranavik (located 2 km from the school).
- There is an express bus from Oslo, and naturally, there are good road connections from the entire Eastern Norway region all the way to Halsnøy.
